Smarthlete exists to connect Registered Users with each other for one purpose: matching individuals who look for a place to study at an institution of higher education in the United States of America (colleges, universities), while playing varsity sports (student athletes) AND individuals who look for talented athletes, who could become part of their team at such institutions (college coaches).

As such, Smarthlete considers itself a market place, where Registered Users meet with the objective of reviewing each other and finding a match over time. The personal data, which is shared by the Registered Users, is presented in a way, which allows a more efficient means of managing, updating and promoting oneself for above purpose.

Sensitive Data

The personal information, shared by the individual during registration, does not include any sensitive data, such as health-related information. Consequently, Smarthlete is not made aware of any previous diseases or injuries with any such information to be exchanged – if at all – directly between the parties at a later stage.

Collection of Personal Data

Personal data collected in the process of Visitors registering as Registered Users or during any of the above-described means of communication exchange is limited to data directly necessary to enable a successful matching experience of individuals. Right To Be Forgotten

Athletes

Data is stored for the duration of the entire recruiting process (complete upon enrollment at college) and for as long as the duration of an undergraduate degree - four (4) years - thereafter. Reason for that is that transfers from university to another university happen often and individuals are offered to use their Smarthlete Profile with regards to finding another match, as they decide to not continue studying at the university.

If you are an individual with requests under GDPR related to your rights as regards your personal data, please email support@smarthlete.com. Smarthlete will review your request and respond to you immediately.

However, please understand that we are not able to re-active your account after a permanent cancellation of your data.

Coaches

Data is stored for as long as the individual is an employee (or the equivalent of that) at the university or to the point that the individual chooses to terminate the created account.

Privacy Policy Updates

We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. You should review this Privacy Policy frequently. If we make material changes to this policy, we may notify you on our Website, by a blog post, by email, or by any method we determine. The method we chose is at our sole discretion. We will also change the "Last Updated" date at the beginning of this Privacy Policy. Any changes we make to our Privacy Policy are effective as of this Last Updated date and replace any prior Privacy Policies.
